Final Schedule!

Join us for a day in the park of hanging out and making new friends while you get a chance to learn from other crafty members of the Astoria community. We have 4 mini-classes planned and those members will be happy to help you start learning a new technique. If you need help with the basics, we will have instruction available for that, too!

Saturday, June 13th, 2009: 2nd Annual Astoria Knit in Public Day!

Astoria Knit in Public Day!

Hosted by: Rosemary of Astoria Crafty Knitty (ACK) &
Kim of Steinway Astoria Craft Crochet & Knit (SACK)
Location: Astoria Park, in side the park near 23rd Ave & 19th St
Time: 12pm-4pm
Date: June 13, 2009

How to get there:
Take the N train to the Ditmars Blvd stop. You will exit the train onto 31st St. Walk north to Ditmars Blvd, and head towards the river by turning left at the Starbucks.

If you want to walk to Astoria Park, just walk down Ditmars Blvd until you hit the park. It's approximately a 10 block walk. It's a nice walk, so stop by the Waltz for a refreshing drink to go!

If you want to take a bus, the Q19a runs down Ditmars Blvd until 21st St. If you get off at Ditmars Blvd and 21st St, just walk to blocks over to join us in the park.
If you want to drive, a driver has provided the following directions to Astoria Park:
1: From BQE (I-278) stay left onto I-278 E toward TRIBORO BR (also called RFK Bridge). You will now be on the Grand Central Parkway extension.
2: Take EXIT 45 (first exit after merge) 31st St.
3: Stay on I-278 service road/Grand Central Parkway extension)
4: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto HOYT AVE N.
5: HOYT AVE N becomes 19TH ST.
6: End at 23rd Ave & 19th St

In the park, we will be at the side of Astoria Park closest to 23rd Ave and 19th Street. Turn left onto 19th Street and walk into the park at 23rd Ave. That's where all the knitters, spinners and crocheters are!

Please bring:
Yourself! and your knitting, spinning or crocheting projects you are working on. You may want to bring any finished objects you want to share, too! We are planning to have demos of different techniques throughout the day. There will be cameras there, so bring your cameras to capture the event if you'd like.

We will be in the park for a long time. Please feel free to bring items for your personal comfort like, blankets, umbrellas or chairs. You may also want to bring food and drinks with you as well. (There are free bathrooms available nearby-- Astoria Park has public bathrooms available in the little kid's playground and near the running track as well.)

Most importantly, bring your smile and fiber positivity with you!

The backup plan is:
Lefkos Pirgos Cafe (22-85 31st Street, on the corner of 23rd Ave. in Astoria. It is a few steps from the Ditmars Ave/Astoria stop on the N line.)

We will set up a way to notify you the morning of if we need to move to this space. Please watch the blog for details on what will happen if it rains!

Please email Astoria.KIP (at) gmail (dot) com if you have any questions!
